Submission Guidelines:
POV & Voice
-
Always 1st person, framed like an online confession or diary post.
-
Voice is casual but personal — like talking directly to “you.”
-
Narrators often sound like they’re unburdening themselves: “I need to tell you this… I’m not sure you’ll believe me…”
Length & Tense
-
3,000–6,000 words (20–30 min read).
-
Mainly past tense, but can shift to present tense in peak moment of fear.
The Narrator
-
Everyday people — young adult, student, babysitter, commuter, hobbyist.
-
Vulnerable, flawed, often lonely or grieving.
-
Tone is confessional, like a private admission shared with the listener(s).
Themes & Subject Matter
-
Fear comes from the ordinary turning strange.
-
Core themes: isolation, entrapment, unreliable perception, family tension, betrayal.
-
Endings should feel unsettling and unresolved.
Setting & Plot
-
Modern day, grounded and plausible.
-
Common settings: highways, basements, attics, houses, woods, neighborhoods.
-
Stories begin mundane → slowly twisting into horror, with room for psychological doubt — could it all be in their head?
